“Your nightmare world will keep you trapped”
Perpetua, who had been crowned queen of the central world by ThornRose, was originally a mortal child. A mortal child who had imagined escape from the harsh reality of her life by imagining her bedroom as a sanctuary and herself as the Purple Queen, queen of the realm of her Purple Bedroom.
As sunlight breaks through the darkness, Perpetua realizes that she is no longer on the central world, that she is now on a world that has become an expanded version of the realm of her Purple Bedroom. This purple world was different though, no longer her sanctuary: nightmare thoughts that she wanted to forget, created from the anger hidden deep inside her imagination, were bubbling up and wanting to be set free.
Far far way in the distance, on the edge of the horizon, was a door slightly ajar from which dark billowing clouds emerged, mushrooming up and enveloping the purple realm. Perpetua is about to enter the doorway in order to face her ‘inner demons’. ThornRose and some of her companions will follow Perpetua into her nightmare reality but what will they find on the other side of the gateway or doorway they choose to enter?
If asked to describe my work, and specifically about ‘The Death Angels’, I might say:
“It’s a bit like ‘Alice in Wonderland’ for grown-ups… but without ‘Alice’ or the ‘Wonderland’. (‘Alice in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll was a fantasy book about a young girl who fell through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures.)
ThornRose, in ‘The Death Angels’ by Lesley Saine, lives on a dull, drab planet until she is pulled into a carved book into another reality. So, the similarity is mainly that someone enters another world. The series is filled with a constantly changing eclectic, fluctuation of enigmatic scenarios, snapshots of lives, exploration of emotions and now and again some poetry thrown into the mix.”
“Be careful of what you wish for – you just might get it”
The inner child within Despair climbs out and enters a world of enchantment, where within a gleaming castle a clawed hand pulls her into a fountain and her appearance changes as she emerges into another world. She sees a young girl stumble and fall into an ancient fountain. Silver and gold water from this fountain sprays out onto her and she appears back on the world of enchantment, with the young girl running ahead of her as though someone had been chasing her. A young girl who now has silver and gold in her veins from the fountain – who ran straight through thick undergrowth that parted to let her through – and now sits beneath a forgotten sphere shape monument that has statues of mortals and strange unusual creatures around it.
The young girl has an imagination. Her brother, who had been chasing after her, has not – he stubbornly only sees reality. When the forgotten sphere shaped monument changes her, the young girl becomes the DeathRose and intends teaching her brother a sharp lesson that imagination is real.
“The darkness falls at they behest”
ThornRose, Jet Bloodstone, Neglect, Emotion, Cascade and Torrent (New Magic Hybrids) continue in their quest to counter the threat of the Death Angels. Death Angels who originally cloaked the worlds in all encompassing cloying, swirling purple mist that dulled the senses and now, driven by the power and purpose of Evil’s blood still coursing in their veins, they seek to systematically destroy the minds of magic and to steadily obliterate the light.
In the neverending circle of death and life, who will succeed and who will fail? Death and life, dark and light, evil and good: all have their part to play.
A rose by any other name is not so sweet: “Blood red roses weep, teardrops slip”
ThornRose (‘Thorny’) lives a dull monotonous life on a drab world cloaked in purple mist (courtesy of the Death Angels who feed on lost love, painful emotions and blood). She has a unique ThornRose sphere which empowers her – circlets of thorns woven into a sphere shape with a dull blood red rose hidden in the centre. She does not know her true potential.
When she encounters Jet Bloodstone she finds out who she really is, a Wizard/Witch Hybrid. They join together to search for other Hybrids in order to counter the threat of the Death Angels to the worlds.
